About The Position

This is a temporary position with the NC Dept of Natural & Cultural Resources – HR and Safety division. Temporary employees are limited to one NC State Government temporary assignment at a time and must be fully qualified for the job. This role offers exposure to an agency's culture, processes, and procedures, potentially providing valuable experience for those seeking permanent employment with the state. The position is located at 109 East Jones Street, Raleigh NC, Wake County 27601.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree with a major in safety engineering, industrial engineering, industrial management or technology, occupational safety, or one of the physical sciences or an equivalent technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution and a minimum of three years of progressive occupational and safety and health experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Thorough knowledge of application requirements of a variety of safety topics, such as powered industrial trucks, permit required confined spaces, aerial lifts and respiratory protection
• Ability to assess a technical safety program for gaps in compliance and specific custom needs
• Ability to develop a technical safety program which includes writing a policy for, to develop/provide training and to evaluate the program performance
• Ability to work independently and travel, some of which is overnight
• Ability to communicate ideas clearly and effectively both orally and in writing with ability to establish professional working relationships with agency and outside personnel

Responsibilities

• Assist in the development of safety programs
• Provide technical knowledge of safety subjects
• Assist in investigating incidents
• Assist in providing safety training
• Perform other safety-related duties as needed
