About The Position

The Safety Attendant provides one-on-one observation of selected patients for the purpose of identifying behaviors which are potentially hazardous to self or others in accordance with facility policies and procedures; reports needs and concerns to licensed nurse. As a member of the UVA Community Health team, individuals contribute to patient care decisions, support advanced medical technologies, and experience the satisfaction of making a difference in people’s lives every day.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing as applicable.
  • Knowledgeable regarding guidelines for infection control, body substance precautions, patient safety, and body mechanics.
  • Maintains acceptable standards set by those guidelines.
  • Completes a de-escalation class within 90 days of hire.
  • Ability to lift/push/pull 100 lbs. For any weight over 35 lbs., use Safe Handling Equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous hospital experience preferred.
  • Ability to work with elderly patients or act as a companion.

Responsibilities

  • Provides one-on-one observation of selected patients for the purpose of identifying behaviors which are potentially hazardous to self or others in accordance with facility policies and procedures.
  • Reports needs and concerns to licensed nurse.
  • Provides and documents assistance to patients under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse.
  • Assists/provides patient care throughout the entire patient experience under the direct supervision of the physician and/or the registered nurse.
  • Assists in room turnaround, including appropriate cleaning of equipment, supplies, and environment.
  • Organizes supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Assists with patient care while complying with Department, Hospital, and Regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Understands concepts of sterile and non-sterile techniques.
  • Adheres to safety measures.

Benefits

  • The base compensation for this role is $18.00 hourly.
  • May include applicable incentive compensation programs such as shift differentials, clinical ladders, and other incentives that may be available for those in eligible positions.
