About The Position

This position provides security related oversight to school campus areas and serves as a resource to administration, staff, and students.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Prior law enforcement experience.
  • Successfully trained with the use of taser and hand gun.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and community members.
  • Be able to walk the entire campus frequently throughout the shift.
  • Be able to be outside in various weather conditions throughout the year.
  • Wear uniform as required by the District.
  • Maintenance of confidentiality.
  • Successfully qualify annually with hand gun.
  • Hand gun and ammunition to be provided by Safety and Security Officer.
  • Remain up-to-date with legally required trainings.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol school premises, including halls, locker rooms, and parking lots maintaining high visibility in the assigned areas before, during, and after school, on weekends, and as requested by school administration.
  • Be a positive role model and student advocate; be visible and accessible while developing and promoting positive relationships with youth, parents, and staff.
  • Assist in investigating incidents of misconduct and/or property damage.
  • Assists building administration in conducting searches; follow up on theft reports.
  • At the request of Administration, assist building administrators with discipline, welfare checks, and transportation.
  • Serve as law enforcement liaison, juvenile contact, and student support.
  • Schedule meetings as appropriate.
  • Attend appropriate staff meetings, activities, and training.
  • Provide the administration with insight and information regarding negative student group activity, truancy, and behavior that may compromise the safety and security of our staff and students.
  • Participate on appropriate committees, expulsion hearings, truancy board, and threat assessment team.
  • Provide education and/or training to students and staff.
  • Retain records as appropriate.
  • Purchase and maintain radios and other communication devices as appropriate, including requests for repairs, battery replacement, and new devices.
  • Responsible for monitoring cameras and communicating with appropriate district personnel.
  • Respond to alarms and provide on-call assistance to administration in the event of an emergency.
  • Prepare school newsletter information on safety and security topics.
  • Provide support for crossing guards and traffic.
  • Assist District Administration with policy and procedure updates as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
