About The Position

VNA & Hospice of the Southwest Region is seeking a Safety and Security Coordinator to support all its locations. This role is responsible for supporting regulatory compliance, coordinating safety education and training, and overseeing emergency preparedness activities to ensure a safe environment for employees, patients, visitors, and the communities served. The agency is a non-profit home health and hospice care provider based in Vermont, recognized as one of the nation's top 100 performing home health agencies.

Requirements

  • Three to five years of experience in healthcare safety, emergency preparedness, security, risk management, law enforcement, EMS, military, occupational safety, or related field.
  • Valid State Driver's license required.
  • Ability to successfully pass pre-employment driver record, criminal, adult and child abuse background check/review required.
  • AVADE Instructor certification or ability to obtain
  • Pepper Spray Instructor certification or ability to obtain

Nice To Haves

  • A degree in Emergency Management, Occupational Safety, Public Safety, or related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience considered.
  • Experience providing staff education and coordinating organizational safety initiatives preferred.
  • Experience with healthcare regulatory compliance preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides agency-wide coordination and subject matter expertise for safety, security, workplace violence prevention, emergency preparedness, and related risk-management activities across all agency locations and field operations.
  • Co-chairs the Agency Safety Committee, including coordinating meetings, developing agendas, reviewing safety trends, assigning and tracking action items, and monitoring completion and effectiveness of safety initiatives.
  • Maintains the Agency Safety Event Log and monitors and trends employee and patient safety events, concerns, workplace violence incidents, injuries, vehicle incidents, and other safety-related occurrences to identify opportunities for prevention and improvement.
  • Coordinates safety and security investigations, including information gathering, interviews, site assessments, identification of contributing and root causes, development of corrective and preventive action plans in collaboration with leadership, and follow-up to evaluate implementation and effectiveness.
  • Coordinates and delivers staff safety and security education, including AVADE, pepper spray training, workplace and personal safety, active threat awareness, and new employee safety orientation.
  • Coordinates agency-wide emergency preparedness activities in accordance with the Home Health and Hospice Conditions of Participation (CoPs).
  • Coordinates safety drills including fire, evacuation, severe weather, active threat, and other required emergency exercises.
  • Conducts routine safety rounds, environmental assessments, and security assessments at agency locations in collaboration with the facilities coordinator and other appropriate personnel; identifies hazards and vulnerabilities and provides recommendations to leadership for corrective action.
  • Assists with maintaining agency compliance with OSHA, CMS, state licensing requirements, and accreditation standards related to safety and emergency preparedness.
  • Responds to employee safety concerns and provides guidance and support to staff regarding safety and security concerns encountered in the field, including conducting co-visits with field clinicians as needed to assess and address identified safety concerns.
