About The Position

Leverages expertise, experience and best practices for safe work performance, safety equipment selection and continuous improvement initiatives. Provides technical support to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements as well as Avista safety policies, procedures, and practices. Provides training support in all aspects of employee and public safety for operations and assigned corporate services. Maintains positive working relationships with employees, leaders, and the public. Works collaboratively with the safety team to achieve safety goals and objectives. Implements improvements aimed to reduce the number of injuries and accidents in the workplace. Provides support and promotes positive change in safety culture to continue to enhance safety performance individually and as an organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 3+ years relevant experience with broad exposure to safety regulations, ergonomics, body mechanics and industrial hygiene.
  • Experience in an electric and gas utility environment preferred.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering and supporting safety programs.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills; ability to serve and collaborate with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to train and coach on safety and health issues and serve as a trustworthy and dependable team member and safety advisor.
  • Experience with Human and Organizational Performance philosophy, specifically when it comes to supporting incident assessments.
  • An analytical and curious approach to complex issues and problem solving; flexibility and ability to manage multiple deadlines and fast-changing priorities
  • Proficient computer skills in Word, Excel and Power Point; additional computer skills, such as working with EHS software, analytics, etc. a plus.
  • A Bachelor’s degree with five years’ relevant experience with broad exposure to safety regulations, ergonomics, body mechanics and industrial hygiene; experience in an electric and gas utility environment preferred.
  • Ability to write policy documents in a concise format for varying audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with a team (both in office and virtually) with attention to detail and organizational abilities.

Nice To Haves

  • CSP, GSP, CHSP or CUSP certification a plus.
  • Additional computer skills, such as working with EHS software, analytics, etc. a plus.
