About The Position

Base is seeking a Safety and Abuse Test Engineer to join its hardware safety and abuse team. The role focuses on testing in-house designs up to and beyond their limits to help maintain the safety of Base members and employees throughout the product lifecycle. The engineer will review new and existing designs, identify issues that need test coverage, plan and design tests, execute them, and communicate results to stakeholders. Testing may be conducted in-house or at external laboratories to meet requirements set by governing bodies. The role also works to improve test throughput and quality and optimize testing spaces, collaborating with test engineers, technicians, and designers. Much of the hands-on work takes place at a primarily outdoor satellite test laboratory built and operated by Base, less than an hour’s drive from its Austin, Texas headquarters. Transportation is provided. The position spends most of its time at the satellite lab during sprints, with some time in the office. Base works in person, and the company notes that the role is not a 9-to-5 position. As a startup, Base’s priorities and the role’s responsibilities may evolve with business needs.
