About The Position

At Block by Block, Ambassadors are employed to enhance public spaces by making them friendlier, safer, and cleaner for the communities served. This role is ideal for outgoing and friendly individuals who enjoy working outdoors and meeting new people, including retirees, veterans, and graduating high school seniors seeking their first job. The Safety Ambassador will patrol an assigned zone on foot and/or bike to deter unwanted behavior and activity, provide information, assistance, and directions to pedestrians and visitors while maintaining a positive, professional demeanor. They are responsible for observing and reporting unwanted behaviors or criminal activity to local authorities with accurate descriptions. Ambassadors will also firmly and courteously request compliance from individuals violating low-level quality of life crimes, actively engage pedestrians with friendly greetings, conduct visits to zone businesses to share information, and complete basic daily reports, requiring proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English.

Requirements

  • Must have a H.S. Diploma or GED
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have the physical capacity to walk or traverse (including riding a bike) continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions (free uniforms provided)
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language in order to create basic reports.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol the assigned zone on foot and/or bike as a deterrent and be on the lookout for unwanted behavior and activity.
  • Provide information, assistance, and directions to pedestrians and visitors. Must maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
  • Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to local authorities via established communication methods. Must be able to articulate an accurate description of persons, vehicles, and other identifiers.
  • Firmly and courteously request compliance from persons violating low-level quality of life crimes, such as panhandling, loitering, disruptive behavior, etc.
  • Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians with a friendly greeting/smile in order to provide directions and city information.
  • Responsible for making a specified number of visits to zone businesses to share information and gather contact information.
  • Must be able to complete basic daily reports of tasks completed, which requires being proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.
