About The Position

The Safety Aide position works under the direction of a Registered Nurse. This position is to ensure consistent and appropriate oversight of a patient who is at risk of intentionally hurting themselves or others. The Safety Aide provides hygiene, comfort, and safety needs to an assigned patient of any age. As a High Reliability Organization (HRO), responsibilities require focus on safety, quality and efficiency in performing job duties. Requirements

High School or GED (Required)
BLS - Basic Life Support - American Heart Association
BLS to be completed in orientation
Customer Service Skills
Effective communication skills
Critical thinking skills
High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
Emotionally mature, uses sound judgment; Ability to make decisions calmly and quickly.
Agility to intervene with aggressive patients.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Products

Responsibilities

Conducts and documents regular patient safety checks; reports concerns and significant changes to RN.
Maintains safe and hygienic environment, identifying and reporting safety hazards, keeps hazardous material in proper and safe place.
Follows infection control procedures and standard precautions in providing patient care.
Wear protective personal equipment PP e as appropriate.
Accompany patient to procedures, under the direction of the RN.
Establishes caring and supportive relationship with patient and family.
Notify RN immediately if unable to manage patient or environment.
Helps patient use problem-solving and coping skills appropriately.
Serves as a role model for healthy behaviors and effective communication skills.
Documents observations and patient data in accordance with hospital policy.
Maintains current documentation in patient medical record.
Assists in Performing Hygiene, Comfort, and Safety Needs of Patients under Direction of, and as Assigned by RN.
Keep patient as the central focus.
Gather data and report to RN.
Interact with the patient as appropriate and use reorientation techniques and utilize learned de-escalation techniques.
Obtain report from RN prior to beginning of shift.
Give a verbal report to RN prior to leaving the unit/shift.
Performs Adequately in Emergency Situations.
Maintains composure.
Notifies the appropriate persons, according to policies.
Initiates appropriate emergency measures.
