About The Position

The Safety Adviser is responsible for the deployment, implementation, and monitoring of activities, programs, and procedures related to occupational health and safety, emergency preparedness, and environmental protection at the operational sites under their responsibility. The HSSE coordinator may be required to travel outside the region on an occasional basis. Working closely with the operational management teams at the marine terminal, as well as with members of the corporate and local HSE team, the Safety Adviser promotes the adoption of best practices to support the achievement of the organization's health and safety and sustainability objectives. The Safety Adviser participates in local health and safety committees and provides ongoing support to operational teams at the terminals. The Safety Adviser is responsible for coordinating the implementation and deployment of the Emergency Response Plan (ERP) and serves as the Marine Facility Security Officer (MFSO) for the operational sites under his responsibility. In addition, the coordinator delivers HSE training to operations personnel and managers and actively contributes to continuous improvement initiatives related to health, safety, security, and the environment.

Requirements

  • College degree in a related field (industrial hygiene, industrial relations, industrial engineering, or equivalent)
  • 5 to 8 years of relevant experience implementing HSSE processes and programs, ideally within the maritime, mining, manufacturing, or cargo handling sectors
  • Communication skills, both orally and in writing
  • Excellent teamwork skills
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, standards and regulations related to health and safety, security and the environment
  • Ability to use software specific to his area of expertise
  • Availability for occasional trips to other terminals

Responsibilities

  • Conduct HSSE compliance audits
  • Support operational teams in the application of HSSE standards, programs, and procedures
  • Assist in the development and implementation of safe work methods
  • Support local teams in conducting field investigations following HSSE incidents or accidents
  • Maintain security plans and emergency measures plans, including employee awareness, preparation, and coordination of drills and exercises
  • Monitor the application of operational procedures in the field, ensure alignment between procedures and operational realities, and follow up on requests for procedure creation or modification
  • Participate in the assessment of HSSE training needs
  • Actively contribute to HSSE risk assessments by maintaining tracking tools and ensuring alignment of standardized operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Assist site managers in developing and implementing action plans to address issues, reduce risks, achieve objectives, and meet compliance requirements
  • Participate in the organization and facilitation of HSSE activities such as corporate and local seminars
