About The Position

The SACC Group Leader is responsible for delivering a broad range of engaging and developmentally-appropriate activities in the School-Age Child Care (SACC) program. Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston (BGCB) has played an essential role in opening doors and creating opportunities for young people across Boston and Chelsea since 1893. BGCB aims to be a life-changing force for opportunity and empowerment for every youth, enabling them to reach their full potential as productive citizens and leaders. BGCB engages more young people and families than any other youth-serving organization in Boston and Chelsea.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • High School degree or GED required.
  • Minimum six months of related work experience.
  • If age 21+, valid driver’s license required and 7D license required or obtained within six months of hire.
  • Minimum of five hours of EEC approved training, including a minimum of three months of in-service trainings (may be completed within first six months of hire).
  • Must be or become CPR / FA certified.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • Ability to work with youth and families from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work clubhouse hours, especially as seasons and service needs change.

Nice To Haves

  • Some college preferred.
  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree can replace some of the qualifications needed.
  • MS Office and web competency preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and delivery of a range of developmentally appropriate programs and activities for 6-12 year-olds, including academic enrichment, homework assistance, and athletic/recreational activities.
  • Assess individual children’s needs and provide tutoring and assistance as necessary.
  • Serve as a responsible and reliable role model for children.
  • Supervise and discipline program participants within the program area and throughout the clubhouse.
  • Share concerns and challenges with the SACC Director.
  • Ensure afternoon snack is served to participants.
  • Assist with the maintenance of materials, equipment, and other resources.
  • Maintain a safe and clean program area.
  • Participate in individual and group supervision sessions and professional development opportunities.
  • Participate in various evaluation efforts, including the annual member survey.
  • Collaborate with Club staff on programming and special events.
  • Travel between sites and to activities as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as specified by the SACC Director.
