About The Position

Mirantis is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to develop control planes for high-density, high-throughput infrastructure used by AI training and inference workloads. The role combines software architecture with deep expertise in datacenter networking and DPU architectures, within a T-shaped engineering team that values practical fluency across neighboring systems and open-source contributions. The engineer will build production-grade control-plane microservices, Kubernetes operators, and reconciliation engines primarily in Rust and Go. The role also involves designing requirements and architecture, developing APIs and integrations for network operating systems and DPU platforms, instrumenting distributed services with OpenTelemetry, and conducting root-cause analysis. The team uses review-gated pull requests and mock-driven testing to support quality across Rust, Go, and SQL codebases. Mirantis describes itself as a Kubernetes-native AI infrastructure company serving enterprise customers. It offers a collaborative, open-source-focused work environment, professional development and training, conference and working-group opportunities, and a competitive compensation package with a strong benefits plan.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 5 years of software engineering experience in cloud-native platforms, systems programming, networking, or infrastructure automation.
  • Primary mastery of Rust, including Tokio, Tonic, Axum, and sqlx, and strong proficiency in Go.
  • Advanced SQL and PostgreSQL fluency, gRPC/Protobuf contract design, and schema evolution experience.
  • Strong background in asynchronous concurrency models, lock-free patterns, distributed state handling, and mock-driven testing.
  • Expertise in BGP, MP-BGP, EVPN, VXLAN, L3VNI, route targets, and route-server design.
  • Hands-on experience with SONiC, Cumulus Linux, and NVUE, including a first-class NVUE client.
  • Deep knowledge of NVIDIA DOCA, Host-Based Networking, BlueField DPU architectures, and the DPF operator model, including BFB, DPUSet, and DPUNode CRDs.
  • Understanding of InfiniBand fabrics, NVLink/NMX-M partitioning, and RoCEv2.
  • Advanced understanding of Linux netlink, network namespaces, routing tables, and internal DHCP/DNS service implementations.
  • Commitment to test-driven design and writing highly testable code with mock interfaces for external hardware and network dependencies.
  • Proven ability to write clear architectural specifications and participate in constructive, cross-functional design reviews.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with automated bare-metal provisioning and lifecycle management.
  • Experience with OVS and DPDK.
  • Expertise in PXE/iPXE, UEFI, Secure Boot, measured boot, and TPM attestation.
  • Proficiency with Redfish, IPMI, and BMC abstractions across heterogeneous hardware platforms, including Dell, Lenovo, and NVIDIA reference hardware.
  • In-depth knowledge of boot chains, systemd, initramfs, and BIOS configuration matrices.
  • Practical experience with PKI, X.509 certificates, TLS, SPIFFE/SVID, Vault, KMS, Keycloak (OAuth2/JWT), and RBAC.
  • Experience with KubeVirt/KVM.
  • Experience writing Kubernetes controllers or operators using kube-rs or controller-runtime and CRD-driven reconciliation patterns.
  • Demonstrated participation in or maintainership of open-source systems projects.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain production-grade control-plane microservices, custom Kubernetes operators, and reconciliation engines in Rust and Go.
  • Write functional and non-functional requirements, architectural specifications, system sequence diagrams, and gRPC/Protobuf and REST API schemas.
  • Develop integration modules for modern network operating systems, including SONiC, NVUE, and Cumulus, and for DPU hardware platforms.
  • Instrument services with OpenTelemetry traces and metrics and perform root-cause analysis across distributed systems.
  • Participate in review-gated pull-request workflows across Rust, Go, and SQL codebases.
  • Maintain high test coverage using mock-driven testing.
  • Contribute to open-source projects and participate in cross-functional design reviews.

Benefits

  • Professional development and training.
  • Opportunities to attend conferences and working groups.
  • Company outings, happy hours, hackathons, and tech talks.
  • Competitive compensation package with a strong benefits plan.
