About The Position

Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) is seeking a dedicated and mission-driven Healthcare Provider (APRN, PA, or MD/DO) to join our Rural Health Center. This unique role combines school-based telehealth services with on-campus student health care, supporting both rural PreK–12 populations and SWOSU students. This position plays a critical role in expanding access to care across western Oklahoma by delivering timely, high-quality healthcare to underserved populations. The ideal candidate is passionate about rural health, preventative care, and improving health outcomes for children, adolescents, and young adults. This role offers direct impact on rural communities and school-aged children, an opportunity to help build and shape a growing telehealth program, a blend of community health and college health experience, collaborative work with schools and healthcare partnerships, and university employment with mission-driven work. The SWOSU Rural Health Center is dedicated to improving health outcomes across western Oklahoma through innovative care models, workforce development, and community partnerships. Our programs focus on expanding access to care, supporting chronic disease management, and strengthening the rural healthcare workforce.

Requirements

  • Licensed APRN, PA, or MD/DO in the state of Oklahoma
  • Ability to practice independently and manage patient care confidently
  • Strong clinical skills in acute care across pediatric, adolescent, and young adult populations
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Interest in rural health, telehealth, and community-based care models

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 3–5 years of full-time clinical experience preferred
  • Experience in pediatrics, family practice, urgent care, or student health
  • Familiar with telehealth delivery models
  • Passion for health equity and access to care in rural populations

Responsibilities

  • Provide telehealth visits for PreK–12 students in partnering rural school districts
  • Evaluate and manage common acute illnesses and minor conditions
  • Collaborate with school personnel to support care coordination and follow-up
  • Assist in connecting students to primary care and ongoing services
  • Support development and refinement of telehealth workflows
  • Provide in-person and/or telehealth care for SWOSU students
  • Assess and treat common acute health concerns
  • Promote wellness, prevention, and health education
  • Coordinate referrals as needed
