About The Position

The King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office is seeking motivated rising 2L law students for a 13-week Rule 9 Legal Internship in the Civil Division during the Summer of 2027. This program allows interns to practice law in Washington State under a limited license. The office is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and expects all employees to participate in equity work and uphold social justice principles. The Civil Division serves as the in-house law firm for King County, providing legal advice and representation to various branches of county government across specialized sections such as Contracts, County Services, Transportation and Real Property, Employment, Land Use, ITA, Natural Resources, and Litigation.

Requirements

  • Eligible for a Washington State Rule 9 License and licensed at the time of start for summer 2027.
  • Must pass a criminal background check, which will include fingerprinting.
  • Must be a current 2L, who will be between their second and third years of law school during summer 2027.

Responsibilities

  • Legal research and analysis.
  • Drafting of legal briefs and memoranda.
  • Participating in and observing depositions, mediations, arbitrations, court hearings, trials, and other professional activities and events.
