About The Position

The Department of Health Sciences in the College of Health and Behavioral Studies at James Madison University offers a dynamic Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences curriculum. The Health Sciences major is designed for students interested in understanding the causes of disease, strategies for promoting wellness and behavior change, and the scientific basis and methodologies for analyzing health concerns for both individuals and populations. Upon degree completion, graduates are prepared for immediate employment in multiple allied health areas or a pathway to graduate studies in a variety of disciplines, including medicine, optometry, pharmacy, nursing, public health, and other professional preparation programs. The successful candidate will join a strong and engaged faculty at one of the nation’s outstanding public universities. Requirements

• Earned master's degree in health sciences, health education and promotion, public health, or related field prior to the start date
• Evidence of effective undergraduate teaching or relevant instructional experience

• Experience teaching Personal Wellness, health promotion, public health, health education, or related coursework
• Evidence of student-centered teaching practices
• Experience with curriculum or course development

Responsibilities

• Teach multiple in-person undergraduate Health Sciences courses within the general education curriculum, including large-enrollment sections (160 students each) of HTH 100 Personal Wellness, a 3-credit course option in the General Education – Well Being Area
• Teach undergraduate courses within the Health Sciences major curriculum, such as Introduction to Health Sciences and Population Health Determinants
• Develop and deliver engaging and evidence-based instruction appropriate for undergraduate students
• Use appropriate instructional technologies and learning management systems
• Provide student support through office hours and other appropriate instructional activities
• Engage in ongoing professional development related to teaching and the Health Sciences discipline (e.g. attending professional conferences, maintaining CEUs, and/or maintaining certification credentials)
• Participate in service at the departmental, college, and university levels
