About The Position

iQ Academy, Los Angeles delivers online/virtual home based instruction to K-12 students in California. While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are still required to complete approximately 4-6 hours of coursework daily and log attendance. We use the K12, inc. curriculum as the basis for instruction and you will teach via the Class Connect Program. Roving Substitutes are full time employees contracted per school year. They help in all departments as needed to cover teachers out on a daily or short term basis. Roving Substitutes will also complete other duties as needed during contracted hours.

Requirements

  • Permanent California Residence (within 1 of the 10 counties we hire in)
  • California 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit OR Valid/current Preliminary/Clear/Life California Multiple/Single Subject Teaching Credential with a California English Learner Authorization (Issued by CTC)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience using a student information system and/or other type of database software
  • Experience moderating web meetings (Blackboard Collaborate, Webinar, Webex) for small and large groups

Responsibilities

  • Utilize substitute lessons plans and/or create appropriate lesson plans as needed for assigned content sessions.
  • Proactively instruct/support/monitor student academic progress, intervention and attendance on a daily and weekly basis, and communicate with families whenever a concern emerges
  • Collect, review, and evaluate student work
  • Respond as soon as possible, but no later than 24 hours, to parent, student, teacher, and admin inquiries via phone and/or email during regular workweek
  • Follow all school policies and procedures
  • Ensure all communication with families is documented according to school policies
  • Prepare and hold scheduled live instructional sessions, as assigned
  • Instruct individual students and/or small groups of students virtually
  • Complete all necessary compliance documents
  • Alert administrators of any concerns about student progress and work with administrators to resolve student and family concerns
  • Generate informal and formal notes regarding students to provide to teacher upon his/her return and appropriate lead teacher/supervisor
  • Grade assignments in a timely manner and provide effective feedback
  • Use reports to identify and contact struggling students (homeroom and content) to provide guidance and support
  • Contribute to and complete student progress and report cards
  • Ensure students are able to access the curriculum and all needed platforms
  • Support parents with curriculum and instructional/academic program
  • Support parents and students with basic computer set-up, navigation, and troubleshooting
  • Conduct necessary conferences with parents/learning coaches
  • Participate in virtual and required in person staff meetings and professional development
  • Attend school-wide events, meetings, and outings, as needed
  • Actively participate in aspects of standardized testing, as needed. This could include: working with administration to prepare students, assisting with the logistics of testing sites, proctoring students during site-based assessments
  • Assist with various projects throughout the year with colleagues and administration, as needed
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor of specific department assigned
  • In addition to the essential duties and responsibilities, the roving sub will help in all departments as needed and complete the following tasks when assigned to work in that specific department
  • Provide support in the Special Education Department as requested by the program director
  • Assist in virtual intervention assessments as needed
