About The Position

Under the general direction of the Manager, Facilities Operations, the Roving Maintenance Technician is responsible for multiple repairs and maintenance tasks throughout the day which include, but are not limited to: equipment maintenance, special event support, basic plumbing and electrical work, light vehicle maintenance, snow removal, landscaping, carpentry, painting, and inspection of fire alarm and generator systems throughout the Behavior Rehabilitation Center and ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance facilities. The goal of the Facilities team is to ensure all ASPCA locations are fully operational so that staff and volunteers have optimum conditions to meet their program and department goals. In addition, the Facilities team ensures a healthy environment for all staff and for all animals that visit our locations, whether on a short-term or long-term basis. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (Monday- Friday) but also be on a rotation for emergency after calls. This position is an on-site role and reports to the Weaverville and Asheville ASPCA facilities.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with general construction practices (Required)
  • Proficient in plumbing, carpentry, painting, electrical and completing general repairs (Required)
  • Proficient in the use of hand and power tools (Required)
  • Able to handle heavy moving and lifting of at least 50 lbs., standing for long periods of time, bending, stooping, climbing stairs and ladders, repetitious arm and wrist movements (Required)
  • Strong communication skills required (written, verbal, listening) (Required)
  • Valid Driver's License and ability to drive when necessary. Able to provide a valid driver’s license upon hire and pass a motor vehicle history check demonstrating a safe driving history (Required)
  • OSHA 10 Hour Certificate (If not in possession, able to be attained within 30 days of hire)
  • Ability to exemplify ASPCA's core values and behavioral competencies
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in maintenance or general repair (Required)
  • Language: English (Required)
  • Education and Work Experience: High School Diploma

Nice To Haves

  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and floor plans (Preferred)
  • Proficient in handling online ticketing systems, Microsoft Office (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Facilities Manager to maintain/ improve the overall condition of ASPCA facilities; as well as the overall function of building mechanical and operating systems
  • Handle assignments in both Weaverville and Asheville facilities
  • Manage supply and part inventory. Inform manager of inventory status.
  • Conduct routine facility testing and inspections, including, but not limited to: fire extinguishers, exit lights, emergency lights, generators.
  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance throughout buildings and facilities.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment failures and maintenance issues throughout the facilities.
  • General repair, including, but not limited to: repair/ replace locks, hinges, push bars, doors, door stops, door closers, sanding, spackling, caulking, replacing/ repairing sheetrock/ cement board/ hard backer, painting, floor/ wall tile, carpeting, furnishings, glass frosting, countertops, carpentry, mounting items such as pictures/ paintings/ shelving on walls, furniture/ equipment assembly
  • General landscaping and property maintenance.
  • Use hand/ power tools to perform general repairs; which includes, but is not limited to: hand tools, common power tools, trade specific tools.
  • Assist with operations at facilities as needed
  • Assist with office moves, moving furniture, equipment and tools as necessary
  • Take the fire system offline with fire alarm monitoring service to prevent unwarranted alarms when there is a non-threatening faulty condition, or work is scheduled that could produce a false alarm.
  • Transport supplies across ASPCA facilities, temporary work locations and special event sites (e.g., emergencies and special events)
  • Maintain safe and clean working environment.
  • Complete all other tasks assigned to you by the Facilities Managers and Directors
  • Coordinate with vendors/ contractors about maintenance and repairs to appliances, including, but not limited to: stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers and washing/ drying machines, boilers, HVAC systems, electrical, plumbing, locksmiths, carpentry, general repairs, etc.
  • Access work order system, update assigned work orders and assist Facilities Managers in assigning tasks to self, senior custodian and custodian teams as needed
  • Perform vehicle maintenance; included but not limited to: checking tire pressure, filling tires with air, adding windshield wiper fluid, checking and adding antifreeze, oil and transmission fluid, replacing headlamp or tail lights
  • Schedule and take vehicle for maintenance and inspections
  • Safely operate all vehicles and other job-related equipment
