About The Position

The Route Relief Driver is responsible for driving a truck over an established route to deliver and sell products or render services of the dairy industry to customers' places of business. This role involves collecting money, making change, recording transactions, writing customer orders, soliciting new business, and resolving customer complaints. The driver will also be responsible for loading and unloading product, stocking shelves, setting up displays, issuing promotional materials, and collecting unsold merchandise. Physical demands include climbing, crawling, and walking, as well as stacking and unstacking items weighing up to 50 pounds and dragging stacks of milk weighing approximately 240 pounds. The role requires working in extreme temperatures (over 100°F and below 32°F) and primarily outdoors in various weather conditions. The driver must maintain the truck's cleanliness, perform routine maintenance, and operate the vehicle safely and courteously.

Requirements

  • Must have a Class A or B commercial driver’s license
  • Minimum Age: 21, as per Federal D.O.T. regulations
  • Must be able to pass a D.O.T. Physical and Drug Screen
  • Past route sales experience and a good driving record preferred

Responsibilities

  • Drive truck over established route to deliver and sell products or render services of the dairy industry to customer’s place of business.
  • Follow all Department of Transportation regulations.
  • Collect money from customers, make change, and record transactions on customer receipt.
  • Write customer orders and instructions; record sales or delivery information on daily sales or delivery record.
  • Call on prospective customers to solicit new business.
  • Prepare order forms and sales contracts.
  • Inform regular customers of new products or services.
  • Listen to and resolve service complaints.
  • Load and unload product at destination.
  • Place stock on shelves or racks.
  • Set up merchandise and sales promotion displays.
  • Issue sales promotion materials to customers.
  • Collect or pick up empty containers or rejected or unsold merchandise.
  • Stack and unstack items weighing 50 pounds from a height of approximately seven feet to the ground and back continually.
  • Drag stacks of milk weighing approximately 240 pounds throughout the shift.
  • Load and unload truck and carry merchandise.
  • Work in very hot (100°+) and very cool (less than 32°) environments throughout the year.
  • Work outside most of the time, regardless of the conditions.
  • Keep the inside of the truck clean.
  • Perform routine maintenance on truck.
  • Work and drive in a safe, courteous, and efficient manner.
