About The Position

The Rescue Mission Alliance (RMA) is a Christian non-profit organization that has been serving the less fortunate in Southern California through emergency and long-term rehabilitation services since 1972. RMA partners with local churches to meet the spiritual needs of the people we serve. The Thrift Stores provide revenue to support the Rescue Mission drug and alcohol recovery programs. This is a full-time regular, non-exempt position reporting to the Oxnard Dispatch Supervisor and located in Oxnard, CA. Compensation is commensurate with skills and experience. This position is eligible for overtime and benefits according to applicable guidelines.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, or GED equivalent.
  • Valid CA driver’s license and insurable under RMA
  • Clean 3 year DMV driving record.
  • Ability to reach, bend, and lift boxes, furniture, etc. into and out of delivery truck.
  • Must be able to do extensive driving in a variety of road and weather conditions.
  • Consistently demonstrate the ability to work safely.
  • Requires strong customer service orientation.
  • Possess a team player attitude and ability to work with a wide variety of people with different personalities and backgrounds.
  • Have excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Able to work independently and under some pressure to meet deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous route driving experience a plus.
  • Bi-lingual (English-Spanish) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Picking up donations via box truck.
  • Load and unload truck utilizing proper lifting techniques.
  • Safely negotiate in a variety of environments, e.g. steep stairs, uneven surfaces.
  • Safety oriented.
  • Daily communication with call center/dispatch.
  • Prior to daily route, inspect all vehicles and maintain vehicle supplies such as gas, oil, water, tires, etc. to ensure vehicle is kept in proper working condition.
  • Keeps vehicle maintenance record.
  • Report any mechanical problems encountered with vehicles to supervisor.
  • Read and understand the Thomas Guide, maps and follow written and verbal geographic directions.
  • Obey all traffic laws and follow established traffic and transportation procedures.
  • Communicate with Receptionist by use of two way radio.
  • Comply with all Federal, State, and local laws regulating safe driving, and RMA policies and procedures.
  • Ensure any accident or injury is promptly reported.
  • Maintain a safe driving record and appropriate driver's license classification while operating company vehicles.
  • Attend all safety matrix and driver meetings.
  • Promote RMA Safety Program and in alignment with the Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) and Smith Systems policies and procedures, model safe work practices.
  • Map/Grid and prepare routes.
