About The Position

Boston Battery Wholesale, a franchise of Interstate Batteries, is seeking a Route Delivery Driver for their Milford, MA location. This role involves safely delivering Interstate brand batteries to dealers and customers. It's more than just driving; the position requires physical labor to lift and carry heavy batteries, an outgoing personality to build customer relationships, and a focus on increasing battery sales. Drivers will visit the same customers biweekly. The job is described as hard work, combining delivery, customer service, and sales, and is not suitable for someone looking for a simple drop-and-go delivery role. It involves regular heavy lifting and working in various weather conditions.

Requirements

  • Be RELIABLE and show up to work on time, on a regular basis
  • Can meet the schedule requirement, including overtime expectations
  • Have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and can pass a driving history check (5 years accident free, 3 years free of moving violations)
  • Can pass drug screens (including marijuana) & a pre-employment / criminal background check
  • Are at least 21 years of age
  • Have or can obtain a valid DOT medical card prior to beginning employment
  • Have at least 1 year experience driving non cdl commercial trucks (vans, box trucks or hino)
  • Have exceptional people-skills, can communicate, stay focused and organized
  • Can lift & carry up to 70 pounds, on a regular basis
  • Can use technology with no issue (handheld computers, tablets, smartphones, etc.)
  • Can & will wear required PPE
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent education
  • Are looking for a long-term career

Responsibilities

  • Complete pre-trip & post-trip truck inspections & follow all traffic rules
  • Safely deliver batteries on-time to auto customers/dealers, following the assigned route
  • Maintain clean customer rack display with accurate inventory at dealer locations
  • Rotate batteries to follow first in first out rule, based on battery age
  • Collect any used batteries (cores) when needed
  • Be friendly & develop relationships, address customer issues, educate on new products
  • Use people skills to increase sales
  • Use a handheld device to print tickets and input data, as needed
  • Make sure customer payments are collected, if needed, or they are current on their payment plan
  • Perform physical work such as lifting & carrying heavy batteries while delivering batteries at 15-20 stops daily
  • Safely drive non-CDL trucks 8-10 hours per day (route could be in a city or suburbs, depending on the day)
  • Become a battery product ‘expert’; gain a clear understanding of battery types and customer needs
