About The Position

Set up and operate a variety of hand grinders and machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. Produce quality ground components by removing excess material and preparing parts to meet engineering drawings and customer specifications. Safely operate grinding equipment while maintaining productivity, quality, and housekeeping standards. Support manufacturing operations by ensuring parts are completed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule. Sets up and operates large high speed metal removing machines to fabricate metal parts.

Requirements

  • 2-3 years of manufacturing experience
  • Must be able to work in a warm environment where the nature of the job creates many dust particles
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position
  • Observant to company policies and safety guidelines
  • Must present a positive professional image
  • Must be dependable, reliable and a team player
  • Willingness to cross train on other equipment

Nice To Haves

  • 2 year technical degree preferred

Responsibilities

  • Grind, sand, clean, or polish metallic parts to prepare finished surfaces or to correct defects, using hand grinders and power tools.
  • Use large high RPM grinding wheels and belt sanders to prep large castings and hard-faced products for future operations
  • Mark defects such as porosity, cracks, and other defects for repair.
  • Mark products, workpieces, or equipment with identifying information.
  • Move controls to adjust, start, or stop equipment during grinding and polishing processes.
  • Select wheels and/or belts, according to materials, sizes and shapes of workpieces, amount of stock to be removed, finishes specified, and steps in finishing processes.
  • Select production equipment according to product specifications.
  • Measure and mark equipment, or parts to ensure grinding and polishing standards are met.
  • Measure materials to mark reference points, cutting lines, or other indicators.
  • Verify quality of finished workpieces by inspecting them, comparing them to prints, measuring their dimensions.
  • Compare physical characteristics of materials or products to specifications or standards.
  • Measure dimensions of completed products or workpieces to verify conformance to specifications
  • Study blueprints or layouts to determine how to lay out workpieces and determine operational methods or sequences.
  • Record product and processing data on specified forms.
  • Record operational or production data.
  • Load and adjust workpieces onto equipment or work tables, using overhead cranes
  • Maintain a clean work environment and equipment
  • Perform other tasks as requested by management and ability to cross train on other machines
