About The Position

This 11-month, exempt position serves as a ROTC Instructor (NCO) at Thomas Stone High School. The salary is based on the ROTC, NCO scale, with a minimum salary determined by the difference between retired pay and active duty pay. The employing institution pays the full salary, with half reimbursed by the school. The role involves instructing students in military drill, counseling them, developing curriculum, managing equipment, planning activities, preparing reports, assessing program progress, attending training, and promoting the ROTC program through presentations. The instructor also supervises drill meets, manages financial accounts, and liaises with civic groups for support. Regular attendance and performance of related duties as assigned by the Principal are expected.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required.
  • Must have served a minimum of 20 years of active duty or have retired under the Temporary Early Retirement Authority (TERA).

Responsibilities

  • Instructs in military drill.
  • Counsels students in the ROTC program.
  • Writes and updates lesson plans for the ROTC curriculum.
  • Requisitions and inventories all government-furnished equipment/materials.
  • Plans extracurricular activities for the ROTC unit.
  • Prepares periodic reports on program administration and logistics.
  • Assesses unit progress to ensure ROTC program objectives are met.
  • Attends sponsored training.
  • Attends Higher HQ annual instructor training conference every other summer (SAI and AI alternate summers).
  • Attends JCLC camp annually (both instructors are REQUIRED/MANDATORY to attend).
  • Attend all Higher HQ instructor courses as needed for program compliance.
  • Makes annual presentations of the ROTC programs to students at feeder schools for the purpose of recruitment.
  • Supervisor for evening and weekend drill meets.
  • Maintains financial accounts of the operating budget and prepares financial vouchers for reimbursement expenditures to the school.
  • Establishes contact with civic groups to obtain recognition and support of the ROTC programs.
  • Regular on-time attendance.
  • Performs related duties as assigned by the Principal.
