About The Position

Rotating Equipment Reliability Engineer PBF Energy Inc. (NYSE:PBF) is one of the largest independent refiners in North America, operating, through its subsidiaries, oil refineries and related facilities. We have an opportunity at our Martinez Refinery in California and are seeking a talented Rotating Equipment Reliability Engineer to join our team as a pivotal member that would play a key role here at PBF Energy. The Rotating Equipment Engineer assures cost effective machinery reliability and integrity. The successful candidate will work with Machinery Inspectors on long-term objectives and day-to-day troubleshooting of refinery machinery which includes pumps, turbines, compressors, gearboxes, fans/blowers, etc.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 3 years or greater experience in refinery, petrochemical or equivalent industrial machinery design, repair, and maintenance
  • Familiar with national codes and standards such as API, ANSI, and ASME
  • Experience in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and bad actor troubleshooting
  • Climb ladders

  • Possess a valid Drivers’ License
  • Candidate must have active TWIC card or be able to obtain a TWIC card.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to steam turbines, centrifugal and positive displacement pumps and compressors, lubrication systems, mechanical seals, and vibration monitoring equipment.
  • Familiar with machinery performance analysis including compressor / pump efficiency evaluation, vibration analysis, and hydraulic analysis.
  • Understanding of basic instrument design and low voltage applications, construction, and operating principles as they relate to machinery monitoring & protection systems.
  • Exposure to the use and application of machinery condition monitoring tools such as Bentley Nevada System 1, SKF, and Windrock is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Foster a goal zero Safety and Environmental performance mindset as it relates to rotating equipment systems.
  • Focus and drive LOPC incident reduction and demonstrate a commitment to reduce rotating equipment operational and maintenance safety risks.
  • Assisting the Machinery Inspectors with troubleshooting equipment and providing recommendations for machinery problems to the assigned business teams.
  • Lead or participate in root cause failure analysis and risk analysis investigations.
  • Evaluate current performance and improvements to develop and support short-term and long-term reliability plans, capital projects, and turnarounds through execution.
  • Develop bad actor resolutions, repair and maintenance strategies, and design alternatives that address health, safety, environmental, reliability, operability, and maintainability issues.
  • Review and develop operating and maintenance procedures related to rotating equipment.
  • Initiate Management of Change (MOC) documents and completes associated engineering review(s) for rotating equipment changes in assigned area.
  • Support day-to-day troubleshooting and performance to ensure machinery operability, environmental compliance, and process safety.
  • Provide scope and technical oversight to external vendor shops that occasionally execute machinery repairs.
  • Participate in the refinery on-call Mechanical Team duty rotation schedule for off-hours support.
  • Ability to respond to abnormal plant operation events.
