About The Position

The Marathon Anacortes Refinery is seeking a Rotating Equipment Reliability Engineer that will function as the technical support to ensure plans and processes are in place to appropriately maintain the refinery’s rotating equipment throughout its lifecycle to reduce safety, environmental, and economic risk, while maintaining compliance with all applicable codes and standards. The engineer will also be responsible for providing technical support on rotating equipment issues. The candidate will be a highly motivated, team-oriented individual who has a background in mechanical engineering in industrial rotating systems, preferably in a refining/petrochemical environment. The engineer will be responsible for providing technical support for equipment replacements, troubleshooting existing issues, implementing new solutions and supporting reliability initiatives targeting longer run-times, higher MTBF, and safer operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • Must have at least 4 years of engineering experience.
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience as a rotating equipment engineer.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft: Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint and Teams.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and work within industrial environments.

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of experience in refining industry, with maintenance/reliability experience preferred
  • Experience using SAP or other CMMS
  • Familiarity with ASME and API codes and standards
  • Experience with centrifugal and positive displacement pump, centrifugal and reciprocating compressions, and mechanical sealing and auxiliary systems
  • Experience in machinery condition monitoring tools including Bentley Nevada System 1, or similar vibration monitoring systems, AMS Machinery Health Manager, SKF
  • Experience with Vibration Analysis (CAT I / CAT II certification a plus)
  • Experience with lubrication best practices and industry standards

Responsibilities

  • Champion Mechanical Integrity (MI) program for rotating equipment and the Major Equipment Deficiency (MED) process.
  • Maintain compliance of mechanical equipment with the MI program, including identification of covered equipment, developing and scheduling of ITPM plans, budgeting, identifying critical spare parts, analysis of failure results, and developing repair recommendations.
  • Utilize reliability tools and a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software such as SAP, failure analysis, and cost analysis to improve reliability of rotating equipment systems.
  • Improve the run time of rotating equipment by effective use of reliability tools, such as, FMEA, FA, RCFA, preventive, predictive and proactive maintenance.
  • Analyze equipment failures and condition monitoring data to identify opportunities for improvement in equipment reliability, availability, and operational costs.
  • Review and provide support for the safe and reliable operation of rotating equipment using Bentley Nevada System 1 and Emerson AMS Asset Management System.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams to troubleshoot equipment during start-up and normal operations.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance in resolving equipment design, operation, and maintenance problems.
  • Development, commissioning, and implementation of reliability-oriented programs and best practices.
  • Drive reliability improvement efforts for assigned areas in coordination with Operations, Maintenance, and Technical Services.
  • Perform and/or review rotating equipment upgrade studies.
  • Develop Project Requests Forms (PRFs) for equipment upgrades including financial justification (life cycle cost analysis) and provide technical support throughout the development of the project.
  • Develop and review turnaround work lists and scopes for critical rotating equipment.
  • Support facility turnaround planning, reviews, material selection, and execution.
  • Provide leadership and decision-making skills during equipment outages regarding repair scope and solutions.
  • Oversee shop maintenance/repairs that are completed internally and at outside repair facilities.
  • Support factory reviews or factory acceptance testing and site commissioning of rotating equipment projects or major rotating equipment replacements.
  • Revalidate, review, and write maintenance procedures and QA/QC checklists related to rotating equipment.
