About The Position

As a Rotating Equipment Engineer with Trans Mountain, you will join a dynamic and fast-paced team of technical specialists dedicated to supporting safe, reliable, and efficient pipeline operations. Reporting to the Manager, Project Engineering, you will provide subject matter expertise on a range of rotating equipment, including pumps, motors and associated auxiliary systems. You will support the full lifecycle of rotating equipment from specification and design through commissioning, operation, troubleshooting, and reliability improvement, ensuring optimal performance and alignment with industry standards. In addition to technical leadership, you will manage sustaining capital projects focused on maintaining and enhancing the integrity and reliability of Trans Mountain’s pipeline system. As a member of the Sustaining Capital Projects Engineering team, you will contribute to the identification, planning, and execution of sustaining capital projects throughout the Trans Mountain pipeline system. This is a contract position is based in our Calgary Office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing with APEGA and/or EGBC.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience working with rotating equipment in pipelines, oil & gas, energy, or similar industries.
  • Strong knowledge of API standards (e.g., API 610, 617, 618).
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and leadership capabilities.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound engineering decisions.
  • Travel to field sites is required (approximately 5-10%).
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license is required.
  • Occasional support outside regular business hours or on weekends may be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Pipeline engineering experience is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering and technical support for rotating equipment including pumps, motors, and auxiliary systems.
  • Support sustaining capital projects through equipment selection, technical specifications and design reviews
  • Lead and/or support factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT), commissioning, and start-up activities.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable industry codes and standards (CSA, API, ASME, etc.).
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and lead or support root cause failure analyses (RCFA)
  • Coordinates with Operations, Engineering department and other internal stakeholders to identify and develop sustaining capital projects.
  • Provide project management services such as scope development and cost estimating (AFE preparation), managing third-party engineering consultants; drawing reviews, permitting, and job hazard analyses; tracking project cost and schedule performance and construction support, commissioning, and start-up coordination
  • Ensuring project documentation, document controls and project lifecycle information requirements are being met.
  • Support Capital Projects Program (CPP) compliance activities, including field inspections, regulatory information requests, and implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs)
