Requirements

  • No formal schooling or training required.
  • Previous housekeeping or cleaning experience desirable.
  • Must have basic knowledge of general cleaning principles, the use of cleaning products and the operation of cleaning equipment.
  • Must be able to understand and follow verbal or written instructions and be able to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent vision required; emphasis on cleanliness standards and quality control.
  • Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Must have upper body strength to lift up to 50 pounds continuously throughout the course of the work shift. Must have the strength to push, pull and move levers, equipment and furniture throughout the course of the work shift. Must be able to work with arms raised overhead throughout the course of the work shift. Must be able to maneuver a fully loaded housekeeping cart weighing up to 50 pounds through hallways and in and out of closets throughout the course of the entire work shift.

Responsibilities

  • Stocks shelves and storage areas with products and prepares the housekeeping cart with supplies; constantly maintains housekeeping carts and storage areas in a neat and orderly condition to encourage efficiency and ease of cleaning rooms.
  • Cleans and dusts windowsills, doors, walls, closets and pictures, areas, hallways, frequently using a step stool or ladder to clean hard-to-reach areas in order to maintain a clean, presentable and attractive facility at all times.
  • Washes shower and tub walls, cleans and dusts toilets, partitions when applicable; damp wipes all fixtures, cleans mirrors, sinks and walls to ensure public and guest bathrooms are clean and sanitary.
  • Replaces towels, soaps and all amenities and restocks printed materials that were used or soiled or broken by the previous guest to ensure that there is an adequate supply for the next guest.
  • Hand washes all floor areas (linoleum, tile, etc.) to remove dirt and clean spots.
  • Dries and polishes all furniture, fixtures and wall hangings, including the use of a feather duster to reach vents and ceiling corners to remove dust and cobwebs.
  • Removes all linens from the beds and re-makes them with clean linens, checking the cleanliness of all coverlet, blankets and mattress pads, replacing them if they are soiled.
  • Lifts mattresses to check for stains between mattresses and under beds.
  • Checks the cleanliness of the closet, damp wipes the closet door, handle and top shelf and replaces guest room items such as hangers, blankets and extra pillows.
  • Vacuums rooms, public areas and hallways operating vacuums that weigh up to 25 pounds and lifts and moves heavy furniture in order to vacuum the entire carpet area, including under furniture and in hard-to-reach areas.
  • Inspects all door and window locks to ensure they are functioning properly and immediately alerts management to address an unsafe or hazardous situation in order to ensure the safety of guests and employees.
  • Inspects all room equipment (TV, lights/lamps, faucets, radios) to ensure they are functioning properly and immediately reports in writing the condition of the room and maintenance deficiencies to the Executive Housekeeper so that the situation can be repaired or resolved without delay.
  • Secures and maintains custody of equipment, keys and supplies at all times in order to protect and conserve the hotel's assets.
