Job Overview Cleans and prepares guest rooms and public areas in accordance with property established cleaning standards to ensure guest satisfaction and maximize profits.

Requirements

  • No formal schooling or training required
  • Previous housekeeping experience desirable
  • Must have basic knowledge of general cleaning principles, use of cleaning products, and operation of cleaning equipment.
  • Must be able to understand and follow verbal or written instructions and be able to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent vision required; emphasis on cleanliness standards and quality control.

Responsibilities

  • Stocks shelves and storage areas and prepares the housekeeping cart with supplies; constantly maintains housekeeping carts and storage areas in a neat and orderly condition to encourage efficiency and make it easier to clean rooms.
  • Cleans and wipes down windows, doors, walls, closets, and fixtures in guest rooms, public areas, and hallways, frequently using a step stool or ladder to clean hard-to-reach areas in order to maintain a clean, presentable, and attractive facility at all times.
  • Washes shower walls and tub/shower, cleans toilet(s) and toilet partitions when applicable; wipes down exposed pipes, cleans mirrors, sink(s) and walls in order to provide public and guest bathrooms that are clean and hygienic.
  • Replaces towels, soaps, and all amenities in the room and restocks printed materials that the previous guest took or that are stained or broken in order to ensure an adequate supply for the next guest.
  • Hand washes all floor areas (linoleum, tile, etc.) to remove dirt and clean up soiled areas.
  • Dries and polishes all furniture, fixtures, and wall hangings, including the use of a duster to reach vents and ceiling corners in order to remove dust and cobwebs.
  • Removes all linen from the beds and re-makes the beds with fresh linen, checking the cleanliness of the bedspreads, blankets, and mattress pads, replacing them if they are soiled.
  • Lifts mattresses to check for stains between mattresses and under the beds.
  • Checks the cleanliness of the closet, wipes down the closet door, handle, and upper shelves and restocks guest room items such as hangers, blankets, and pillows.
  • Vacuums the rooms, public areas, and hallways by operating vacuums that weigh up to 25 pounds and lifts and moves heavy furniture in order to vacuum the entire carpet area, including under furniture and in hard-to-reach areas.
  • Inspects all door and window locks to ensure they are functioning properly and immediately alerts management to address an unsafe or hazardous situation in order to ensure the safety of guests and employees.
  • Inspects all room equipment (TV, lights/lamps, faucets, radios) to ensure they are functioning properly and immediately reports in writing the condition of the room and maintenance deficiencies to the Executive Housekeeper so that the situation can be repaired or resolved without delay.
  • Secures and maintains custody of equipment, keys, and supplies at all times in order to protect and conserve hotel assets.
