Roofing Specialist
About The Position
At Corgan, we are passionate about great design and fostering a collaborative environment. We are actively recruiting an experienced Architectural Roofing Specialist to join our Dallas office and work within our firmwide Technical Design Services Group. This role will support all of Corgan's market sectors on major projects, including Aviation, Commercial, Healthcare, K-12/Higher Education, and Critical Facilities. The specialist will collaborate with Project Managers, Project Architects, and staff on a variety of domestic and international projects. Occasional travel and periodic extended stays may be required depending on specific project needs and contracted work scopes.
Requirements
- Willingness to listen, observe, and learn from the Senior Roofing Specialist.
- Working knowledge of basic building construction.
- Capability to learn to analyze all technical aspects of the building envelope.
- Ability to identify design challenges, develop concepts to address them, and define scope of work and design solutions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a similar degree.
- Familiarity with major industry manufacturers' roofing systems, performance characteristics, warranty profiles, and appropriate applications/detailing.
- Experience with writing and editing roofing systems specifications.
- Significant field experience with roof systems installation observations & generation of roofing field observation reports.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Bluebeam Review, AutoCAD, and REVIT.
- Proficiency in energy code calculations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact professionally with the design team, clients, contractors, and other industry experts.
- Ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment.
- Ability to complete tasks with accuracy and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple ongoing projects (in various stages) concurrently.
- Familiarity with sustainable design, including the USGBC LEED rating systems.
- 5 years or more of experience in roofing system design.
- Flexibility to travel to project sites when necessary.
Nice To Haves
- IIBEC RRO or CSI CDT certifications preferred.
Responsibilities
- Uphold the highest quality standards for building enclosure design throughout the complete building design process, from Schematic Design through Construction Administration.
- Collaborate with outside Consultants, Owners' representatives, and General Contractors.
- Conceptualize design ideas and define performance criteria for appropriate roof selections.
- Review submittals and shop drawings in collaboration with Project Architectural Staff.
- Validate roof drainage capacity calculations.
- Define and review roofing system mock-ups.
- Assist with system specification in collaboration with Corgan Specifiers.
- Develop roof system detailing.
- Present at meetings.
- Conduct construction observation of roofing, waterproofing, and air barrier assembly installation.
- Prepare field observation reports.
- Work with the design team to select appropriate materials and systems for roofing and waterproofing systems.
- Learn basic concepts of project management and understand client expectations.
- Actively participate in industry-related professional associations.
