About The Position

Perform inspections, repairs, modifications and replacements of complex campus roofing systems with a minimum of oversight. Fabricate and repair various sheet metal roofing and mechanical components. Follows all University safety rules and regulations at all times, along with established safe work procedures.

Requirements

  • Must have five years of journey-level experience as working level tradesperson, along with demonstrated knowledge of Roofing/Tinning trade.
  • Must have a strong understanding of safe work practices.
  • Completion of a roofer apprenticeship program or equivalent.
  • Must be able to read technical drawings and fabricate ductwork for different applications.
  • Must be computer literate and have the ability to achieve competency with campus/departmental technology and software packages.
  • Ability to work both independently and work well with others in a team environment.
  • Communicates clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to work with various types of roofing and sheet metal tools/products.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and be able to pass a background test.
  • Must have strong working knowledge and experience with different types of roofs (built-up, single ply, shingle, slate, etc.) including residential and commercial installations.
  • Must have strong experience with performing inspections, locating leaks, and making repairs to existing roofing.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all journey-level facets of roofing and tinning trade, including fabrication, rough and finishing work.
  • Typical work tasks consist of service calls, maintenance, and repair/replacement work.
  • Perform tinning repairs to complex campus roof systems.
  • Assists other tradesmen in more complex work assignments and projects.
  • Reads and understands technical drawings and fabricates a wide-variety of ductwork, chimney caps, and other related items.
  • Assists in job set-up, including delivering of materials, and clean-up.
  • Ensures proper care in the safe use and maintenance of vehicles, tools, and equipment necessary to perform all work tasks.
  • Follows proper safety requirements, including the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Safely operates and uses ladders, high reaches, platform lifts, scaffolds, and fall protection systems to access and perform work on campus roofing systems.
  • Follows the department’s customer service standards.
  • Utilizes and documents work activities via the departments CMMS (Maximo).
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including overtime assignments and emergency call-in work.
