About The Position

The Truss Estimator prepares material take-offs, cost estimates, and proposals for roof and floor truss projects. This role partners with sales, project management, and production to ensure accurate pricing and project efficiency. Responsibilities include estimating materials and costs for residential, commercial, and agricultural projects, ensuring compliance with codes and customer specifications, assisting with production issues, and providing order status updates.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver license.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and project documents.
  • Experience preparing estimates, material take-offs, and cost calculations.
  • Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and ability to work with sales, production, and customers.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in estimating, design, or the building materials industry preferred.
  • Familiarity with truss design, construction processes, and MiTek software (or similar) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews architectural drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
  • Prepares accurate roof and floor truss take-offs, estimates, bids, and proposals.
  • Calculates material, labor, and installation costs for assigned projects.
  • Revises estimates based on design changes and customer requests.
  • Coordinates with sales, project management, production teams, and customers.
  • Develops truss and panel designs using MiTek software and ensures compliance with applicable standards.
  • Supports customers and sales staff by evaluating design requirements and resolving issues.
  • Maintains accurate project records and communicates job status updates.
  • Assists with change orders and ensures approved changes are properly executed.
  • Analyzes processes and applies improvements to enhance efficiency and productivity.
