About The Position

The Rolling Mill Utility Operator plays a crucial role in maintaining safety, ensuring proper equipment operation, and upholding housekeeping standards within the heating and forming areas of the rolling mill. This position involves assisting in the daily operations of the mill, contributing to the production of steel products used across various industries including automotive, appliance, construction, machinery, and equipment.

Requirements

  • Basic Computer skills.
  • Able to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to interpret instructions and to use adjustable controls in regulating the continuous process using measuring instruments and gauges.
  • General math skills, advanced problem-solving, and ability to multi-task.
  • The ability to work a Dupont 4/3, rotating 12-hr schedule including days, nights, & two weekends a month.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred, but not required. If you do not have a HS Diploma or GED, you will need to successfully pass an entrance exam.
  • 1-3 years of industrial or manufacturing experience using hand tools preferred but not required.
  • Experience operating an overhead crane and forklift preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain safety, proper equipment operation, and housekeeping.
  • Assist in the operations of the heating and forming areas of the rolling mill.
  • Work safely in a production environment.
  • Follow all safety rules and regulations for the plant and area.
  • Perform routine physical tasks including lifting wrenches, using pneumatic guns, hammers, and moving drums of grease with a cart.
  • Operate overhead cranes as needed.
  • Use a torch to cut scrap material.
  • Assist with mill changeovers by operating panels and connecting/disconnecting equipment.
  • Complete preventative maintenance tasks during planned downtime.
  • Assist in repairs as needed.
  • Perform cleaning and general housekeeping duties as instructed.
  • Operate a forklift as needed.
  • Inspect finished product per procedure.
  • Cross-train at the next promotion level position and receive higher position job pay when filling in at the cross-trained position.
  • Follow prescribed procedures and verbal instructions.
