About The Position

MPS, a division of Macmillan Publishers, is seeking a Rolling Equipment (Forklift) Operator - Returns for their Orange, VA facility. MPS provides back office support, warehousing, and fulfillment for Macmillan US and is their primary distribution facility for North America. This role involves operating various types of rolling equipment, working at heights, and utilizing a Warehouse Management System (WMS). Employees are part of a flexible workforce and may be asked to move between departments to meet production demands.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Six months to one year related rolling equipment experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, safety rules, and memos.
  • Ability to write legibly and effectively communicate one-on-one.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Basic computer and keyboarding skills.
  • Ability to learn WMS.
  • Must complete certification: Attend classroom training and successfully complete a written test on types of accidents, safety procedures, equipment capacity, load center, center of gravity, and equipment classifications.
  • Must complete hands-on training with a certified Forklift Instructor and be certified to operate any piece of equipment.
  • Wear a full body harness to work at elevations of 30 feet.
  • Wear all PPE required for certification and safety.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating Pacer, Turret Truck, Order Picker, and Walkie/Rider equipment.
  • Experience working at elevations of 35 feet wearing a Safety Harness.
  • Computer knowledge of WMS.

Responsibilities

  • Operate rolling equipment to move, locate, relocate, stack, and count merchandise.
  • Operate the baler.
  • Ensure safe and efficient operation of equipment and perform other warehouse functions.
  • Unload inbound shipments and move product to assigned staging area.
  • Stack and store merchandise in the appropriate location.
  • Put processed returns in the correct rack location.
  • Use WMS to record moves and transfers of stock.
  • Move product from staging and/or storage areas to processing areas.
  • Keep appropriate records and reports for inventory control and security.
  • Ensure proper carton labels and pallet IDs are generated and affixed.
  • Review receipt BOLs for accuracy.
  • Review Return Authorization file for inbound Collect Shipments.
  • Separate strip covers from book shipments.
  • Enter Key Record receipt information into WMS.
  • Handle and store good pallets, and separate damaged pallets.
  • Deliver receipts to processing stations and ensure even distribution of work.
  • Remove and replace Gaylords of destroy from processing.
  • Dispose of loose cardboard and waste material.
  • Pull product for stock transfers to other warehouses.
  • Pull product for customer orders.
  • Resupply corrugate stock at forward rack locations.
  • Operate the stretch wrapper and pallet banding equipment.
  • Load outbound shipments onto carrier trailers.
  • Build outbound destroy loads.
  • Move NOP/RES and strip cover product to designated areas.
  • Follow processes regarding safe operation of shredder, baler and accurate counts/weights of trailer loads of hogged books.
  • Ensure product for shipments is properly palletized, wrapped, weighed, and banded.
  • Separate mint-carton stock from loose stock before transferring.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work area.
  • Comply with all established environmental, health, and safety requirements.
  • Assist in cycle counts.
  • Identify books that can be refurbished from the “hurt category”.
