About The Position

MPS, a division of Macmillan Publishing, is seeking a Rolling Equipment (Forklift) Operator for their Receiving Department at their Gordonsville facility. MPS provides back office support, warehousing, and fulfillment for Macmillan US, serving as their primary distribution facility for North America. This role involves operating various equipment, working at heights, and handling inbound and outbound freight.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondences, and memos, write legibly and effectively present information one-on-one and small groups situations of employees in the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions, and to deal with standardized structure with only occasional or no variables.
  • Computer skills to include basic knowledge of PCs and keyboarding and a working knowledge of WMS.
  • Must be able to operate a turret truck, order picker, Pacer, forklift, reach truck, walkie/rider, pallet jack, and work at elevations of 35' feet wearing PPE (safety harness).
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to work at heights up to 35 feet with PPE (safety harness).

Responsibilities

  • Operate all equipment to include Pacer, Turret Truck, Order Picker and Walkie/Rider and work at elevations of 35 feet wearing Personal Protective Equipment – Safety Harness.
  • Unload trucks, put away stock in assigned locations, stage stock in assigned P&D locations, and stage full case picks to assigned P&D location.
  • Remove plastic from pallets, break down pallets and complete appropriate paperwork.
  • Work in other areas and other locations as assigned based on workload.
  • Pick cartons and loose stock from back-up rack locations and move product to assigned staging areas for replenishment to forward pick locations and full case/pallet picks to proper staging areas.
  • Place labels on cartons properly oriented for system scanners.
  • Load cartons on conveyor and/or drop zone.
  • Place product in designated picking locations.
  • Place full pallet and partial pallet picks in designated areas.
  • Assist in unloading inbound freight and stage in proper staging areas.
  • Assist in loading outbound trucks.
  • Count to ensure inbound and outbound freight has correct full pallet, case quantities.
  • Inspect cartons/pallets for damage.
  • Prepare product for shipment, ensuring that the exact number and type of product is loaded for shipment.
  • Ensure that receipts/orders are complete and counts verified.
  • Use various devices for picking (scanners and Pick-To-Voice).
  • Inspect all books for damage and correct quantity that is rejected at the QC scale.
  • Inspect and pack special orders.
  • Maintain various quality control reports that monitor picking accuracy by picker.
  • Return overpicks and mispicks to the Pick Module.
  • Keep lead or supervisor advised of any shortages, problems, and incorrect labels/markings.
  • Pack books/components in cartons using various dunnage materials to eliminate damage in transit.
  • Ensure that all work instructions are followed exactly and update the lead or supervisor when completed.
  • Use computer systems and instructions to return product to inventory.
  • Ensure the accuracy of all receipt/shipping documents.
  • Ensure the receipt/shipping counts match all documents and bill of ladings.
  • Assist in resolving any discrepancies.
  • Assist in cycle counting.
  • Retrieve books from Pick Module and rack storage to complete order.
  • Put away stock in assigned locations.
  • Unload trucks with rolling equipment.
  • Stage stock in assigned P&D locations, full case picks to assigned P&D location using equipment and doing it physically.
  • Remove plastic covering from skids/pallets of books using a box cutter.
  • Restack pallets of books from one pallet to another.
  • Use WMS to record moves and transfers stock.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work area.
  • Conduct operations in a manner which promotes safety.
  • Enforce established safety, health, and housekeeping policies and procedures in order to minimize injuries, loss of production time, and damage.
  • Conform to all company policies and procedures (Employee Handbook).
  • Comply with all environmental, health, and safety requirements.
