About The Position

RR Donnelley of Elk Grove Village has an exciting opportunity for a Roll Tender/Feeder whose looking for a fresh start! This role involves loading rolls of paper onto printing presses, inspecting paper for defects, preparing the paper for continuous printing, and potentially assisting with press make-ready tasks and maintenance. The position operates on a rotating shift schedule and offers a shift differential.

Requirements

Ability to read and follow job specifications to determine materials needed.
Ability to make adjustments to the auto splicer.
Knowledge of materials and requirements for the press.
High School Diploma or GED
Continuous standing/walking for 8 hours or more.
Occasional bending, kneeling, climbing, reaching.
Occasional lifting and pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs.
Occasional repetitive motion with both hands.

Nice To Haves

6 months up to 1 year of web press-printing experience.
Experience loading paper and preparing splice for continuous operation of the press.

Responsibilities

Load rolls of paper onto an automatic splicing unit of a web offset printing press or a Gravure press.
Inspect rolls of paper for blemishes or tears and cut away damaged areas.
Roll paper into loading position on an automatic splicer, insert the shaft through the roll core, secure holding chucks, and thread paper through press components.
Apply adhesive strip to a backup roll and insert it onto the automatic splicing unit.
Remove rolls of leftover paper from the press after automatic splicing.
Operate a mechanical truck to transport rolls of paper to the press area (may perform this task).
Assist with make-ready tasks such as hanging plates, examining plates, prepping and installing blankets, and adjusting tension (may perform this task).
Clean the press and press components to maintain them in working order (may perform this task).
Prepare and load flat stock into a sheet-fed press (may perform this task).
