About The Position

The rodman will assist the field engineer and project superintendent as instructed. The primary responsibilities are to stake out and elevate survey points. The rodman may perform maintenance of certain equipment and maintain adequate supplies. Assisting with other various field duties in the process of data collection is also required. This is a safety sensitive position.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 0-5 years’ experience in construction, warehouse, survey, or general labor.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to work with a team to perform boundary and topographical surveying.
  • Knowledge of surveying.
  • Familiarity with electronic distance measuring devices (e.g., total stations and data collectors).
  • Knowledge of and experience with electro tapes and measuring chains.
  • Knowledge of 3D laser scanning systems, laser distance measuring equipment, and laser scanner coordinate capturing equipment.
  • Must be able to use automatic optical pendulum leveling systems, hand levels, leveling bubbles, and optical pendulum levels.
  • Verification of Work Authorization and Employment Eligibility
  • Substance Abuse Screening
  • Background Checks for Badging/Security Clearances (if applicable)
  • Must be able to safely wear a respirator and is able to pass applicable medical and fit testing examinations.
  • Must be able to hear commands from supervisors and back-up safety alarms on equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA 10 Certification.
  • CPR & First Aid Certification.
  • Experience working in construction and/or industrial environments.
  • Physical Exam (if applicable)

Responsibilities

  • Assist the field engineer and project superintendent as instructed.
  • Stake out and elevate survey points.
  • Perform maintenance of certain equipment.
  • Maintain adequate supplies.
  • Assist with other various field duties in the process of data collection.
  • Help maintain all surveying equipment in good working order and notify the appropriate staff member(s) when equipment needs repair or replacement.
  • Measure how far different points are from each other, using a tape or electronic equipment.
  • Search for section corners, property irons, and survey points.
  • Hold the prism pole steady for the surveyor to help determine elevations of different points.
  • While using a level, place the rod vertically in place - or plumb it - to ensure a correct starting point for the next measurement.
  • Lay out stakes to prepare for horizontal and vertical survey measurements.
  • Follow safe work practices in accordance with the Hensel Phelps safety and health program.
