About The Position

Under supervision, assists in the city-wide sanitation and rodent control program by inspecting, baiting, trapping and gassing rodent burrows. Inspects all waste collection facilities, in an assigned area to determine that such facilities conform to all applicable Public Health laws, statutes and ordinances. Investigates problems of yard and street litter. Assists in the maintenance of commercially and privately-owned waste collection facilities. Investigates and reports on complaints of tenants and landlords concerning violations of Public Health laws, statutes and ordinances. Identifies and reports abandoned cars, trucks, and other abandoned vehicles. Discusses and reviews proper and modern methods of waste storage with citizens. Investigates and condemns defective waste storage facilities and makes recommendations for their replacement. Investigates sanitary conditions around public and private buildings and streets and assists in maintaining public health standards. Requirements

  • Graduation from a standard high school, vocational school or possession of a high school equivalency
  • One (1) year of experience in waste collection, rodent control, customer service, maintenance work, custodial services or a related field.
  • Must possess a valid State of Connecticut driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • State of Connecticut Pesticide Supervisory Certification in Pesticide category 7D preferred.
