About The Position

This position involves placing and securing steel bars, rods, cables, or mesh in concrete forms. The Rodbuster will determine quantities, sizes, shapes, and locations of reinforcing rods from blueprints, sketches, or oral instructions. They will cut rods to required lengths using various tools and bend steel rods with hand tools and rod-bending machines. Additionally, the Rodbuster will cut and fit wire mesh or fabric and position it in concrete to reinforce it. They will also place blocks under rebar to hold bars off the deck when reinforcing floors.

Requirements

• Must have 4 years of experience as a Journeyman Reinforced Ironworker
• Must possess all Knowledge Skills and Abilities for positions
• Must be able to meet all physical requirements.
• Must have all required tools.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• Active Listening – Able to follow instructions. Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking the time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
• Coordination - Adjusting actions in relation to others' actions.

Responsibilities

• Position and secure steel bars, rods, cables, or mesh in concrete forms, using fasteners, rod-bending machines, and hand tools.
• Space and fasten together rods in forms according to blueprints, using wire and pliers.
• Determine quantities, sizes, shapes, and locations of reinforcing rods from blueprints, sketches, or oral instructions.
• Cut rods to required lengths, using metal shears, hacksaws, bar cutters, or acetylene torches.
• Cut and fit wire mesh or fabric, using hooked rods, and position fabric or mesh in concrete to reinforce concrete.
• Place blocks under rebar to hold the bars off the deck when reinforcing floors.
• Bend steel rods with hand tools and rod-bending machines.
