Robotics Technician

Artificial Analysis, Inc.•San Francisco, CA
•Onsite

About The Position

Artificial Analysis is hiring a Robotics Technician to support its robotics benchmarking work. The role works closely with robotics researchers and engineers to build, calibrate, test, and maintain robots; run benchmark task suites on physical robots and in simulation; and help establish new simulation environments. It is suited to an experienced technician or lab manager who enjoys operating a lab efficiently and carefully, including setting up, resetting, and monitoring experiments throughout the day. The technician will prepare and maintain hardware, run and monitor trials, verify the quality and completeness of recordings and logs, and identify whether failures stem from models, equipment, setup, or simulation. The role also involves maintaining lab readiness and safety, keeping operating instructions current, flagging recurring problems, and potentially contributing fixtures, 3D-printed parts, or scripts. This is an on-site position in San Francisco, California.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience with robots, lab equipment, or electromechanical systems, including experience as a technician, lab manager, or in a similar practical role.
  • Practical hardware troubleshooting skills, including investigating faults, testing likely causes with appropriate tools, and explaining the diagnosis.
  • Careful execution of multi-step procedures and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability, once familiar with the equipment and procedures, to independently run a full day of trials, resolve routine problems, and recognize when to escalate.
  • Clear communication and ability to work with researchers and engineers.
  • Confidence learning unfamiliar tools and software workflows.
  • 3D printing experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ROS 2, Isaac Sim, MuJoCo, or another simulator that the candidate has debugged rather than merely launched.
  • Experience running benchmark or test campaigns where the count and ordering of trials matter.

Responsibilities

  • Power, wire, and health-check hardware so each station is ready to run, and incorporate unfamiliar hardware into the fleet.
  • Set up task scenes, perform startup and shutdown checks, run the task suite, and monitor trials on physical robots and in simulation.
  • Check that recordings and logs are complete and linked to the correct task, model, and configuration.
  • Record interventions and distinguish model failures from equipment, setup, or simulation faults.
  • Assemble and maintain hardware, route cables, mount fixtures and cameras, calibrate equipment, manage spare parts, and perform small mechanical fixes.
  • Carry out routine lab checks and maintenance, organize tools and spares, and follow lab safety procedures.
  • Keep operating instructions current and flag recurring problems.
  • Contribute fixtures, 3D-printed parts, or scripts where skills allow.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation.
  • Opportunity to develop skills and take on more responsibility with support.
  • Work closely with researchers and engineers evaluating AI models on physical robots and in simulation.
