Robotic Systems Engineer (Triage)

Weave RoboticsSan Francisco, CA

About The Position

Weave was founded to build the robots we’d want to have in our own home. We believe the next generation of robotics will transform everyday life by enabling people to do more and to reclaim time to spend on what’s important. We also believe robots are in a sense like any other product: to matter, they have to ship. Our robots are already operating in real homes and businesses, giving us the opportunity to rapidly improve from real-world experience. With a growing team, strong customer demand, and capital for expansion, we’re entering an exciting stage of growth—and we’re looking for people with exceptional talent and standards to help bring home robotics to millions of households. Building robots is only part of the challenge for a robotics company. Understanding why they fail and making them more reliable is what will separate companies that succeed for customers from those that fail. As a Robotics Systems Engineer focused on Triage, you’ll investigate the toughest failures across our robotics stack, working across mechanical, electrical, embedded, and software systems to quickly identify root causes and drive lasting improvements. You’ll partner closely with engineers, designers, and technicians to reproduce issues, validate fixes, and improve the robustness of future robots. This role is ideal for someone comfortable navigating a large technical surface area, solving ambiguous problems, and working at the intersection of hardware and software.

Requirements

  • Hands-on robotics experience: 3+ years working with complex robotic or electromechanical systems.
  • Systems mindset: Excellent understanding of how mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software components interact in robotic systems.
  • Strong Python and C++: Proficiency in Python and/or C++ for developing debugging tools, automation, or robotics software.
  • Debugging expertise: Experience using diagnostic tools such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, and software instrumentation to troubleshoot system-level issues.
  • Collaborative approach: Comfortable working across multiple engineering disciplines to communicate findings, validate fixes, and improve overall system reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate and triage failures across mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software systems to quickly restore reliable robot operation.
  • Test, and evaluate complete robotic systems, including perception, actuation, and embedded hardware, to identify and isolate system-level issues.
  • Use logs, instrumentation, and hardware diagnostic tools to root-cause complex failures spanning sensors, actuators, embedded firmware, networking, and application software.
  • Build and maintain internal tooling, drivers, and automation in Python and C++ that improve debugging, testing, and system visibility, partnering with teammates responsible for integration.
  • Identify recurring failure modes and partner with engineering teams (mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software) to implement fixes that improve future builds’ robustness, reliability, and serviceability.
  • Develop and refine processes for robot issue diagnostics and resolution for more efficient development and production.
