About The Position
Flex is seeking a Robotics/Mechatronics Engineering Co-Op for its Libertyville, IL site for the Spring 2027 semester. This role will support the Process & Automation Engineering Team by assisting with robotic handling systems, Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMR), Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS) validation, and vision integration across molding and automation systems. The co-op student will collaborate with Engineers and cross-functional teams, gaining hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment.
Requirements
- Junior/Senior student pursuing Bachelors degree in Robotics Engineering, Mechatronics, or Electrical Engineering major
- Basic knowledge of industrial robotics (robot motion, end-of-arm tooling, path programming)
- Understanding of AMR and ASRS systems fundamentals (navigation, material flow, validation concepts)
- Ability to perform cycle time analysis and optimization studies
- Understanding of automation safety principles
- Strong troubleshooting and hands-on problem-solving skills
- Ability to work 40 hours/week (in person) during the Spring 2027 co-op assignment
- Currently enrolled in 4-year accredited university
- 3.0 GPA

- Previous manufacturing floor internship experience a plus!
Responsibilities
- Assist with robot path optimization and cycle time studies
- Support ASRS, AMR validation and mechanical improvements
- Assist with vision system tuning and validation
- Support safety interlock verification
- Participate in troubleshooting and continuous improvement initiatives
- Attend team meetings to support project work as needed
