Robotics Intern

KoiReader Technologies•Dallas, TX
•Onsite

About The Position

KoiReader Technologies is seeking a hands-on Robotics Engineering Intern to work at the intersection of computer vision, physical automation, and edge computing. Based on-site at the company's Dallas, Texas headquarters, the intern will help design, build, and deploy robotic perception and automated inspection systems for yard and gate operations. The role involves collaborating with AI researchers, embedded systems engineers, and operations teams to turn vision algorithms into reliable physical inspection and robotic perception pipelines for live logistics environments. The internship runs from November 15, 2026, through June 30, 2027, and requires a minimum commitment of 40 hours per week. Compensation is $17.50 per hour. High-performing interns may have the potential to convert to a full-time role.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Solid proficiency in C++ and/or Python.
  • Practical experience with ROS or ROS2, including nodes, actions, topics, and tf transforms.
  • Working knowledge of RGB, stereo/depth, time-of-flight, or LiDAR sensors and core computer vision or point-cloud libraries such as OpenCV, PCL, or Open3D, including setup, calibration, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience with physical hardware such as sensors, cameras, edge processors, robotic arms, or AMRs.
  • Ability to independently design and 3D-print industrial-grade components, such as sensor mounts, fixtures, or robotic-arm tooling, using CAD and production-minded materials and tolerances.
  • Located in or willing to relocate or commute to the Dallas, Texas area for the duration of the internship.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior exposure to deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorRT, or ONNX Runtime for object detection, segmentation, or pose estimation.
  • Familiarity with simulation environments such as NVIDIA Isaac Sim, Gazebo, or Webots.
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus, CAN, or MQTT.
  • Deeper CAD fluency with SolidWorks or Fusion 360 and experience shipping durable 3D-printed fixtures for field or production use.
  • Exposure to containerization tools such as Docker for edge deployment.
  • Previous internship or project experience of 2–6 months.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with setup, calibration, and spatial synchronization of multimodal sensors, including monocular and stereo cameras, 3D LiDAR, time-of-flight sensors, and depth cameras.
  • Develop and test modular ROS or ROS2 nodes for perception, tracking, telemetry, and edge execution.
  • Build and maintain simulated testbeds using tools such as Gazebo or NVIDIA Isaac Sim to evaluate robotic inspection routines before deployment.
  • Benchmark and optimize models on embedded hardware, such as NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin and industrial edge PCs.
  • Assist with mounting, wiring, testing, and debugging hardware rigs and test fixtures for automated gate, yard, and inspection systems.
  • Conduct controlled experiments, collect field datasets, and measure system latency, precision, and repeatability.

Benefits

  • Potential to convert the internship into a full-time role for high performers.
  • Mentorship and learning from experienced AI architects, with exposure to enterprise-grade deployments.
  • Hands-on experience with NVIDIA hardware and edge AI deployment in production-like settings.
  • Opportunity to work on live Vision AI projects addressing logistics, yard, and supply-chain operations.
