About The Position

The 2027 Summer Internship Program at The Toro Company (TTC) offers a unique opportunity for students to contribute to the development of next-generation autonomous Toro turf equipment. This program runs from May 17, 2027, through August 6, 2027, and requires candidates to be available for the entire duration. TTC, a company with over 100 years of innovation and more than 11,000 employees worldwide, is headquartered in Bloomington, Minnesota, USA. We specialize in a wide range of equipment, including turf maintenance, irrigation systems, landscape and lighting products, snow and ice management solutions, agricultural irrigation, rental and construction equipment, and residential turf and snow equipment. Our products are marketed globally through various distribution channels and online. As a Robotics Engineering Intern, you will gain hands-on experience with both the physical machines and the software systems that enable autonomous operation. You will have the flexibility to identify and focus on areas of robotics that align with your interests and career goals. Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will be involved in designing, developing, testing, and improving autonomous capabilities such as navigation, decision-making, perception, and machine control.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in an educational program during the duration of the internship program.
  • Majoring in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or similar engineering focus.
  • Completed junior-level courses preferred.
  • Strong desire to learn, collaborate, and effectively communicate in a team setting while achieving a common goal.
  • Ability to stay organized and work independently without much direction.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of a school/employment or any other visa, regardless of expiration date, now or in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, debug, test, and enhance software for autonomous robotic platforms.
  • Design and implement robotic subsystems for localization, navigation, path planning, perception, and sensor fusion.
  • Improve automation tools, development pipelines, and testing processes to increase efficiency and reliability.
  • Create and maintain remote diagnostics, monitoring tools, and engineering utilities.
  • Collaborate with software, systems, electronics, and mechanical engineers to optimize overall machine performance.
  • Support the integration and validation of new autonomous features on both prototype and production hardware.
  • Gain exposure to the full autonomous machine ecosystem, from onboard sensors and controls to cloud-based applications and fleet management systems.
  • Participate in field testing, data collection, troubleshooting, and performance analysis of autonomous equipment.
  • Document designs, test results, and technical findings to support ongoing product development.
