Robotics Autonomy Software Intern

NextpowerFremont, CA
$40 - $50Onsite

About The Position

This internship focuses on developing vision-based obstacle awareness and short-horizon navigation capabilities for a ground robot operating primarily under teleoperation in outdoor, unstructured environments. The role is execution-focused and centers on deploying and evaluating existing vision models to assist teleoperators and enable partial autonomy modes on a solar site.

Requirements

  • Currently in final year or recently graduated with a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in a related field
  • Ability to commit to a 10–12-week internship beginning May 18, 2026 (Group 1) or June 15, 2026 (Group 2)
  • Availability to work full-time onsite in Fremont, CA
  • Python
  • PyTorch
  • OpenCV
  • ROS2
  • Docker
  • GPU inference

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate pretrained vision models for dynamic obstacle detection in outdoor environments
  • Build a reproducible data pipeline from teleoperation logs (camera streams and teleoperator commands)
  • Derive weak supervision signals from operator behavior
  • Implement a real-time ROS2 vision node that outputs interpretable obstacle proximity and risk signals
  • Integrate the vision-based navigation module cleanly into Autonomy software stack
