Robotics and Autonomy Engineer (ES)

The University of Texas at Austin•Austin, TX
•Onsite

About The Position

The Robotics and Autonomy Engineer will develop autonomy and perception algorithms for Uncrewed Underwater Vehicles (UUVs) for real-time execution in fully underwater, real-world applications at the Advanced Technology Laboratory (ATL). The selected applicant will participate in the development cycle from initial implementation through testing in oceans, harbors, rivers, and local lakes, and ultimately transition capabilities to Navy Sailors. The role involves developing sonar-based autonomy for obstacle avoidance, multi-agent decision-making, and dynamic replanning in complex underwater environments, as well as perception algorithms that improve vehicle situational awareness. The engineer will analyze sonar and navigation data, contribute to system concepts and proposals, coordinate project execution with development staff, collaborate on large projects with substantial ownership, and document work to support knowledge transfer. Standard office conditions apply, with possible field testing and travel.
