Robot Operator

GeneralistSan Mateo, CA

About The Position

This is a hands-on, execution-driven role at the front lines of deploying and operating our robots in the real world. As a Robot Operator, you’ll be responsible for keeping robots running reliably, safely, and at high performance. You won’t just monitor systems — you’ll actively operate, troubleshoot, and improve them. In practice, you’ll deploy robots, diagnose issues in real time, and work closely with engineering to resolve problems and improve system performance. If something breaks, behaves unexpectedly, or slows operations down — you step in, figure it out, and keep things moving. This role is about making sure our robots actually work. This is not a purely monitoring or passive operations role This is not a robotics software or research position This is not a role where you escalate everything and wait Instead, this role sits at the intersection of hardware, operations, and execution — where you are expected to act, troubleshoot, and keep systems running in real time. As our fleet grows, your impact grows with it — from operating a few systems to helping define how we run large-scale robotic operations reliably. You’ll have opportunities to take on more ownership across deployments, system reliability, and operational processes — directly shaping how our robots perform in the real world. If you want to work hands-on with cutting-edge robotics and be the person who keeps it all running, this role has real leverage.

Requirements

  • Come from a hands-on background (mechanical, electrical, automotive, HVAC, fabrication, or similar)
  • Have experience operating or maintaining complex equipment in the field
  • Are comfortable troubleshooting mechanical or electrical systems
  • Stay calm under pressure and solve problems quickly
  • Are comfortable using software tools, dashboards, or control interfaces
  • Take pride in clean, safe, and reliable work
  • Like working on real systems, not just theory
  • Are proactive, accountable, and don’t wait to be told what to fix
  • Enjoy being the person who keeps things running
  • Are excited about stepping into robotics and learning fast

Nice To Haves

  • Have worked with multi-machine or fleet-style operations
  • Have experience commissioning or starting up equipment
  • Have exposure to automation systems (PLCs, CNCs, sensors, motor controls, etc.)
  • Have worked with new or evolving systems where processes aren’t fully defined
  • Have documented issues, repairs, or maintenance in structured ways

Responsibilities

  • Deploying, powering, and calibrating robots for daily operations
  • Monitoring robot performance and system health in real time
  • Troubleshooting issues quickly and escalating when needed
  • Performing routine maintenance, firmware updates, and sensor calibrations
  • Logging operational data, issues, and performance metrics
  • Ensuring robots operate safely and within defined protocols
  • Working closely with engineers to validate fixes and test improvements
  • Supporting multi-robot operations and keeping fleets running smoothly
  • Identifying recurring issues and helping improve reliability over time
