About The Position

This position is responsible for ensuring that production lines are supplied with coffee, equipment is maintained for roasting and taking corrective action when necessary. The role involves performing basic mechanical service on equipment, operating grinding and roasting equipment according to specifications, and monitoring the quality of roast and ground coffee. The operator will release scheduled roasts, manage roast sizes, and operate the Flavour system. Troubleshooting issues in the Green Bean and roasted bean transfer system and communicating them to maintenance is also a key responsibility. The position requires active participation in maintaining product quality, food safety programs (BRC, HACCP, QA/QC, GMP, Sanitation, good hygiene practices), and the Health and Safety program. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 3 years’ experience in food processing or related industry.
  • Knowledge of health and safety practices and food safety procedures.
  • Good perception of colour and shade differentials.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and ensure completion with minimal errors.
  • Strong ability to independently assess and promptly rectify difficult situations and/or issues.
  • Active knowledge of health and safety regulations in high heat areas.
  • Frequent lifting and bending and long periods of standing are required – may lift 50 lbs. on an infrequent basis.
  • Work in temperatures from 10 to 35 degrees Celsius and periods of extreme heat where precautions are in place.

  • Flexibility is required to cover all three shifts and overtime when necessary.
  • 1 year roasting and grinding experience desired.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic mechanical service on the equipment as needed.
  • Operate the equipment for grinding/roasting as per the specifications and procedures.
  • Monitor quality of roast and ground coffee.
  • Release Scheduled roasts to roasters ensuring correct whole bean bin destinations, matching roast numbers and sizes to bin and production capacities, and matching roast release to production throughput requirement maximizing roaster, grinder, and production efficiencies.
  • Minimize downtime due to degassing.
  • Adjust roast sizes to utilize brokens and rework coffee.
  • Operate Flavour system for ground and whole bean machines.
  • Troubleshoot using system diagnostics for issues in the Green Bean and roasted bean transfer system and communicate issues to maintenance.
  • Support equity, diversity, and inclusivity programs.
  • Understand, apply and actively participate in maintaining product quality and food safety program practices including BRC, HACCP, QA / QC, GMP, Sanitation and good hygiene practices.
  • Understand, apply and actively participate in maintaining the Health and Safety program.
  • Other duties as assigned.
