About The Position

The Trainee is an entry-level role responsible for assisting with the installation, maintenance, and repair of roadway electrical infrastructure including traffic signals, highway lighting, and underground systems. This position focuses on developing foundational construction and electrical skills while working under direct supervision of experienced crew members. The Trainee will gain hands-on experience in a field environment while learning safe work practices and becoming familiar with project standards and Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) requirements.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred but not required
• No prior experience required; construction experience is a plus
• Willingness to learn and develop trade skills
• Strong work ethic and dependability
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Basic mechanical aptitude
• Willingness to learn and accept direction
• Good communication and listening skills
• Attention to detail
• Safety awareness and willingness to follow procedures

Responsibilities

• Assist with installation of traffic signal components (signal heads, poles, cabinets)
• Assist with installation of roadway lighting systems (fixtures, poles, wiring)
• Assist with installation of underground conduit systems and duct banks
• Assist with installation of pull boxes, handholes, and foundations
• Load, unload, and stage materials, tools, and equipment
• Assist with digging, trenching, backfilling, and site preparation
• Handle and organize materials safely and efficiently
• Follow direction from Technicians, Electricians, and Foremen
