GFT is seeking a Roadway Leader and Senior Project Manager, Highways and Municipal Roads to join our Transportation Practice in Ottawa! This role follows a hybrid work model requiring regular attendance at our Ottawa office. GFT’s Transportation Corporate Business Group. Requirements

  • A university degree in civil engineering or related degree.
  • P.Eng. designation required.
  • 15+ years of related project experience on municipal roadway projects
  • Experience in personnel management and mentoring
  • Familiarity with roadway design software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, Inroads, ORD)
  • Technical excellence in civil & roadway design and in particular experience applying City of Ottawa design standards and policies.
  • A thorough understanding of the requirements and complexities of the design and management of multi-disciplinary projects, such as utility coordination, construction staging, traffic management, public consultation, external agency approvals, communication and liaison, coordination of sub-consultants and design groups, schedule and budget control, quality control, construction administration and claims resolution.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in BRT, LRT including intermodal transit facilities an asset.
  • Experience in civil engineering support to aviation infrastructure an asset.
  • Experience integrating roadway, stormwater, sanitary, and water infrastructure into integrated tender drawings and specifications.
  • Experience with public consultation and stakeholder management.
  • Experience in the design of rural, northern, and remote roadways and infrastructure an asset.
  • Familiarity and experience with various delivery models and P3 projects is an asset.
  • A strong professional network in the Ottawa Area and Eastern Ontario

Responsibilities

  • Lead our Ottawa Roadway Team supporting the Area Manager with personnel management, resourcing, and recruitment.
  • Function as a project manager on roadway projects.
  • Mentor intermediate and junior staff.
  • Be a senior technical resource.
  • Develop client relationships.
  • Support our Business Development leadership identifying opportunities, and responding to requests for proposals.
  • Serve as Project Manager and/or Technical Lead for assignments ranging from small to large-scale, from concept development through to delivery, including initially supporting Toronto-based projects as the eastern Ontario business expands.
  • Supervise and mentor technical (roads and highways) staff in Ottawa and supporting the Toronto Roadway lead with mentorship of GTA staff.
  • Support client and pipeline development for the City of Ottawa and Eastern Ontario Municipalities.
  • Serve as capture manager for small to large-scale proposals across multiple disciplines.
  • Collaborate with internal Canadian and US counterparts to execute workshare and staff resourcing.
  • Support the Area Manager tracking the profit and loss (P&L) performance, including personal and team utilization, net labour multiplier, and overall profitability in accordance with targets and business plans.
  • Actively participate in professional societies, with leadership involvement preferred.
  • Be the technical leader with respect to City of Ottawa standards, policy, and delivery.
  • Prepare project management plans and manage scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with all discipline leads, department heads, other project managers, project controls staff, and construction personnel.
  • Maintain a high level of technical quality on the projects.
  • Mentor project staff and participate in hiring processes.
  • Provide effective and efficient management of day-to-day operations within the roads and highways team.
