About The Position

HDR is seeking a Roadway Engineer to provide technical and program-level support to a DOT client in Knoxville, TN. This role focuses on quality assurance, roadway design compliance, and plan development support. In the role of Roadway Engineer, we'll count on you to perform quality acceptance reviews of DOT in-house roadway design plans in accordance with the DOT Quality Manual, verify roadway design and plan development compliance with client Design Guidelines, Standards and Specifications, and Project Development Network (PDN) requirements, and provide roadway design and plan development support. You will also assist with other roadway design and plan development tasks as directed by DOT and within the defined scope of work, provide general project coordination and administrative support for assigned consultant staff, and support quality assurance oversight activities related to consultant services. Additionally, you will assist with accounting and administrative activities for assigned staff, coordinate activities through the Consultant’s designated Project Manager, serving as the primary point of contact, provide design and plan support services as directed by DOT Preconstruction, and prepare and submit monthly invoices and progress reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Previous experience in all aspects of roadway engineering design
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Hands-on experience with Highways and Roads CAD engineering software such as Bentley ConceptStation and Open Roads Designer and/or Autodesk Infraworks and Civil3d
  • MS Office knowledge
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Experience should include urban and highway interchanges, intersection design, traffic management, transportation planning, site planning, preparation of concept alignments, geometrical layout and CAD base alignment plans
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Nice To Haves

  • Active Tennessee Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Experience with roadway design and plan development for transportation projects
  • Working knowledge of DOT Design Guidelines, Standards, Specifications, and PDN
  • Proficiency using Bentley OpenRoads Designer (ORD) and related roadway design tools
  • Ability to work closely with DOT staff and follow DOT procedures and direction
  • Understanding of transportation program management and consultant oversight
