About The Position

The Roadway Design Engineering Associate is an early to mid-career professional who supports the planning, design, and delivery of roadway and multimodal transportation projects. This role focuses on developing technical competence, applying engineering fundamentals, and delivering quality work with increasing independence. Individuals at this level work closely with project managers and senior engineers and are building the experience required for full professional responsibility. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
  • 2+ years of roadway or transportation design experience.
  • Working knowledge of roadway design principles and transportation engineering fundamentals.
  • Experience with design software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with 3D design software such as Civil3D or OpenRoads.
  • Experience working on DOT, county, or municipal transportation projects.
  • Exposure to multimodal design, drainage analysis and design, roundabouts, or urban roadway projects.
  • Familiarity with ADA requirements and accessibility standards.
  • Interest in professional licensure and long-term career growth in roadway design.

Responsibilities

  • Performing roadway, drainage, and multimodal design tasks under the direction of a licensed engineer.
  • Developing design elements such as alignments, profiles, cross sections, grading, and typical sections.
  • Preparing and updating construction plans, quantities, and cost estimates.
  • Applying applicable design standards, manuals, and agency criteria, including state DOT and local agency requirements.
  • Coordinating design tasks with other internal discipline leads.
  • Participating in quality control reviews and incorporate feedback into design deliverables.
  • Supporting preparation of technical memoranda, reports, and design documentation.
  • Assisting with responding to agency comments and coordinating revisions.
  • Managing assigned tasks to meet schedules and budgets with guidance from project leadership.
  • Participating in field reviews, site visits, and construction support activities as needed.
