The Roadway Design Engineering Assistant is an entry-level position focused on building foundational roadway and multimodal design skills. This role supports project teams through production, analysis, and coordination tasks while learning applicable standards, tools, and best practices. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field.
  • Engineer in Training certification or ability to obtain within three months of hire.
  • Familiarity with basic roadway design principles and engineering fundamentals.
  • Exposure to design software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Internship or academic project experience related to roadway or transportation design.
  • Exposure to DOT or local agency projects.
  • Interest in multimodal transportation, complete streets, or urban design.
  • Exposure to 3D roadway design software such as Civil3D or OpenRoads.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting roadway and multimodal design tasks under the direction of licensed engineers and senior staff.
  • Assisting with preparation of plan sheets, exhibits, and design graphics.
  • Developing basic design elements such as alignments, profiles, cross sections, and quantities with guidance.
  • Applying agency standards, design manuals, and project criteria as directed.
  • Supporting cost estimates, quantity calculations, and design documentation.
  • Coordinating assigned tasks with other disciplines under supervision.
  • Participating in internal quality control processes and incorporate review comments.
  • Assisting with responding to agency or client comments.
  • Participating in field reviews, site visits, and construction support activities as needed.
  • Proactively seeking feedback and demonstrating progress in technical skill development.
